Pingpongathon in aid of BBC Children in Need

Posted by Fivefootsix

They say that things aren’t as good second time around, hence the notorious second album syndrome. Our second annual Pingpongathon, however, joined Back To The Future and roast beef flavoured Monster Munch on the short list of things that have made triumphant returns.

For the past two years the residents of Holborn Studios have joined us in pinging and ponging their way through an evening of fun and fundraising in aid of BBC Children in Need.

Alongside a ping pong tournament the evening, hosted by BT Sport’s Abi Griffiths, also featured a silent auction and raffle, where a host of prizes including UEFA goodie-bags, boxes of booze and even side-stage tickets to the Royal National Opera were dished out to help push the total into quadruple digits. A big thanks goes out to Abi and all of those who donated such incredible prizes.

Unable to retain his 2013 ‘King of Ping’ title, our MD Algy had to settle for merely umpiring this year’s final. The unstoppable Ryan of Terra Firma Associates eventually lifted the prize, defeating the hotly tipped Mattias of Open Fundraising.

…people dug deep and contributed towards a total of over £3,500 raised for the charity

Some of the details of the night are sadly tricky to recall, thanks in part to Meantime Brewery’s generous donation of refreshments, though from the subsequent aftermath it’s fair to say that all had a good time. More importantly though, people dug deep and contributed towards a total of over £3,500 raised for the charity this year.

Time for a change in direction

A little update from us at Fivefootsix.

The fast pace of running Fivefootsix hasn’t given us much time to stop and properly think about the future. However, celebrating our tenth anniversary this year presented an opportunity to both reflect and to look forward. And, after a hugely exciting journey, we’ve taken the decision to bring our current agency operations to a close, allowing us to end things on a high, and turn our attentions to new challenges ahead.

Although we’re sad to say goodbye to Fivefootsix, we are also incredibly proud of what we’ve been able to achieve in that time, and the calibre of clients we’ve worked with. Brands like BBC Children in Need, Ben & Jerry’s, Birley, UEFA and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), as well as our own projects, like The Art of Ping Pong, which will continue to develop.

Most importantly, the last ten years would not have been possible without the support of the hugely talented Fivefootsix team, both past and present.

Thanks to everyone who’s joined us on the journey and been part of that success. Hopefully we’ll have the chance to work with many of you again in the future.

If you can, please join us for some drinks at The Art of Ping Pong 2015 launch event, on November 5th at 7pm at the KK Outlet in Hoxton.
